Libido Airbag - Sleaze Servant

Sleaze Servant is the new EP from long-time techno-gore-grind filth mongers, Libido Airbag; a "band" so balls deep in scum and vulgar sounds that even your gran loves a dance to some of their older tunes. They've hardly pumped out volumes of material in their long existence, but the fact that they can still develop and spew out fresh sounds in such a restrictive genre is a testament to gore and porno grind, especially the latter, which often gets bogged down with oceans of crap digi-bedroom projects. Please ladies and gentlemen, just because you've found out how to work a drum machine, it doesn't mean you can't start a fuckin' grindcore band.

But I digress. Sleaze Servant is exactly what the title promises it will be. Whilst a layer of filth has definitely been peeled away from The Airbag as they have progressed into the HD world; those old, minging recordings from the past were a lot sketchier than the pristine techno instrumentation on this record. Don't get me wrong though, it's still mankin' as absolute fuck; the title track and "Black Mark Of The Iron Phallus" are examples of Libido Airbag at their titty-clamping best (edit: what?), whilst "Rectum Ritual" and "Praise The Placentagram" are filthy, delicious, and I guess in a really twisted way, just pure fucking genius. 10/10 for nastiness!

GUT - Spermanys Most Wanted

Spermanys Most Wanted (surely there should be an apostrophe on Spermany's?) is the first 7" EP / demo from now-legendary groovy grindcore band GUT. Technically, Drowing In Female Excrements came first as a hand-made cassette released by the band, but this 1992 EP was the first from the band on a label. GUT are credited with inventing the pornogrind sound, which is in its most primitive and infantile form here.

Due to the production on this thing, it almost sounds like a black metal record. If not for, of course, the trademark GUT gurgles and the sampling work holding it firmly in the dodgy world of grindcore. A few of the songs here would eventually go on to appear on the band's debut album Odour Of Torture, including a GUT favourite of mine, "Consequence".

Once upon a time I had this gem on vinyl, but alas I sold it (along with almost everything else) to live a less materialistic lifestyle. If I recall, the GUT EPs I had were some of the first things to be snapped up by collectors.

GUT - The Cumback

GUT’s The Cumback is perpetually the best and worst comeback record of all time. How do you modernize the sound of a band whose lo-fi dirges shaped the porngrind genre so much? Why, with rap metal and dodgy electronic passages, of course! What The Cumback lacks in genuine grind it makes up for hilarity and dodgy European porno vibes.

If you can see past the filler (and there's a lot of filler - you could probably reduce this down to a decent 8 or 9 song EP instead of a 27 track album) the core of "full band" songs are pretty good. "Pimp The Underground" is the first proper song, followed quickly by the sexcellent "Jenna Haze (You're A Pro)". I love Jenna Haze, and I love this song ("I love you so"). "Three Handsome Guys" can only have been made by a band with the balls to end up starring in a porno, and then you gotta fast forward six whole tracks to get to the next half decent one - "G.U.T. Forever" is a stomping rock n roll declaration of a band that would last forever (or for another five years anyway).

"Aurora Snow (You're Not Bad, Hoe)" continues the pornstar tribute tracks (and GUT are right, she's not bad) before "Throatjob" kicks in. "Throatjob" is by far the best song on the entire album; it's catchy, groovy, and about blowjobs, so you can't really go wrong.

Personally, I stick to early GUT or one of the renunion EPs rather than spin this shambles of an album. It's still got some good jams but overall, it fails to accomplish the simple task of being a listenable album. Saying that, given half a chance, I'd watch these guys live any day of the week, if they decided to reform.

Carnival of Carnage - Chilli Con Carnage

Carnival of Carnage appears to be a pre-Tumour project of Rogore (ex-LDOH). As far as I can tell it was a fairly short lived affair, with one album, one EP and one live 7" (this). It's pretty cool to listen to, it's like Tumour with a full band and a bit more of a groove. I don't know if I necessarily would have bought this record if I'd known it was a live 7" (I'm always the best at researching beforehand) but it's out on Bringer of Gore and is cheap as chips, so no worries there. For cruddily-recorded goregrind fans only.

2 Minuta Dreka - Let's Start A Porn In The Name Of Gore

An instant porngrind classic. 2006's debut from Italian noisecore-cum-grinders 2 Minuta Dreka really made it's mark in a time where pure groovy grind had gone a bit stagnant (GUT's Cumback, anyone?). For me it holds the perfect production; that excellent fine line between studio quality and rehearsal room feel. I guess it is the very organic drum sound (count-ins and all) that helps keep this record's garage vibe locked down. Let's Start A Porn... was released on the seemingly now defunct (?) American label Half-Life Records. I believe also that the record is out of print. Perhaps it should be re-released on vinyl!

There are a few rather long songs here, but that's cool because they are all fairly groovy and don't get boring at all. The samples are just priceless, and if you go on the official 2 Minuta Dreka website, vocalist Brandy has been kind enough to list what films they are all from. Mixed in with the longer tracks are a plethora of silly grindcore 1-seconders and a couple of cover songs from the likes of GUT, Meat Shits and Fear of God. It is clear where this band gained their influences!

It's hard to believe it's been 7 fucking years since this album came out! I for one literally cannot wait for a new 2 Minuta Dreka record. Blllllllerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhh.

GUT / Rompeprop - Split 7"

GUT sounds absolutely huge on vinyl, I just wish they'd stop fucking around and play some more grind! I love the fun element of modern GUT whereas a lot of goregrinders shun them now, but on this record for the most part it's a template of "typical porn sample followed by uninspired five-to-ten second song with silly vocals". I am glad that I didn't shell out the earth for the original CD version of this, and I even commend Everydayhate for putting this on wax. Not to mention, "Nympho is a Gee" is my all time favourite GUT song (either that or "The Taboo Room"). But, unfortunately, the rest of the GUT side is massively disappointing, and often boring.

Rompeprop on the other hand simply cannot be faulted. Open up the sleeve and see written "If you think harmonizer / pitchshifter-vocals are fake, so is your distortion on your guitar!". That couldn't be more right! Big up the pitchshifted vokills! After the hilarious opener "Hallo!", Rompeprop gurgle'n'slam through some excellent polka-dance inducing goregrind for us all. 'Nuff said. Spin this, get up, wiggle back and forth and point those fingers.

Out on 500 copies, all of which may be white, I am not sure. I have number 234 / 500.

GUT - Pimps of Gore

To say that The Cumback split GUT's fanbase in half would be an understatement; 2006's rap metal crossover fuckfest alienated more goregrind fans than you'd care to even think existed! Who then, I hear you cry, keeps pressing GUT records? And who the fuck still buys them? Well, the answer is labels like Supreme Chaos and idiots like me, it would seem.

Pete Steele (may he rust in piece) in an interview about Type O Negative once said something along the lines of: "half our fans are serious goths, the other half get the joke". I think that this applies to GUT. I get the joke. There really shouldn't be rapping in goregrind, but it sure is funny as fuck. I'm not entirely 100% sure if GUT are still serious or not, but I'm pretty certain they are in on the fun, regardless. The same fun that these hardcore goregrinders are missing out on because they have their semen-soaked panties still all up in a bunch about the fact a band might have changed somewhat in the eleven year gap between records.

My word is relax, yo! I get that it might not be everyone's bag of severed bitch heads, but long may terrible genres of music mingle in cringeworthy unison! PS I don't know why the video below shows the cover art for The Cumback. Who cares? Ha ha
