Mixomatosis - Neurofibroma Mixoide

This CD is by far the best Mixomatosis stuff that I have heard so far! I'm not that familiar with them; everything I own by them has a different sound, but Neurofibroma Mixoide has a solid and well-rounded sound that is consistent from start to finish. Ladies and gentlemen, this is some good-ass grindcore! Typically it was released on the equally as awesome label, Rotten Roll Rex back in 2007.

The whole thing kicks off with the title track, a growly number of intense fury which moves back and forth between blasting grind and flat-out punk style riffing, with hilarious yelped vocals. After that the songs blast by at a ferocious pace; "El Carnicero De Africa" (which the band contributed a live version of to my old label's first 7" compilation) is a favourite of mine, as is the Carnal Diafragma cover at track 12; "Stench Vaginalis".

Unfortunately the entire thing is over far too quickly and I am left wanting more sick Spanish goregrind, but it is not to be! Onward to buying more Mixomatosis shits! I think my next step will be the Mixomatosis / 2 Minuta Dreka split 7", as that will also bring me a step closer to getting all the 2MD stuff as well.

Mixomatosis - Grind

As with the other Mixomatosis 7" I have, I have come to the conclusion that they seem desperate to squeeze as little as they can onto a record and call it an EP. Saying that, this is by far my favourite Mixomatosis minute or two; obscene goregrind obviously digitally remixed (shifted drums) melds awkwardly with (probably copyrighted) full orchestra music, before falling away and returning with more flanger-drenched horribleness. This is more noisecore than I ever thought Mixomatosis could get, which is rather ironic considering this basic package is called Grind.

Another thing I don't get: it's fucking one-sided. I hate blank one-sided records! What a fucking waste! If you are gonna go blank, fucking etch something on there! Otherwise split with another band for fuck sake. What a waste of money. We are even spared the luxury of a sleeve and tracklist, just brilliant red vinyl and a shitty little piece of card. Good tunes, but not worth my money, let alone the time, effort and investment in pressing this in the first place.

(as with the last Mixo post, the audio off this disc is not on Youtube, so please enjoy this other random Mixo tune as a substitute.)

Mixomatosis - Convento Infernal

At first glance this 7" looks awesome, but take a closer look at the artwork and you'll notice it is actually badly drawn. Nevermind! Epic studio quality shits from Mixomatosis with hilarious vocals. Terrible samples aside, this music is well recorded and well put together, but side B's live track is a bit shit, if I'm honest. Also, at 45rpm it is over in such a short time.

I wouldn't know where to start with Mixomatosis' rather extensive back catalogue as I kind of stumbled onto them by chance (worked with them on a 7" compilation), but this does seem to be the best studio quality Mixo-stuff out there that I have heard. Perhaps I need more education in this crazy band's work? Neuralgia records' diatribe of pressing "ONLY TRUE UNDERGROUND, FRIEND" is tiring at best. That is all. I apologise for the massive overtones of negativity.

(there is no video available with content from the 7", instead enjoy this Mixo music video)

V/A - Six Lessons Of Hate - Split 7"

6 Lessons Of Hate 7" Compilation featuring Subduxtion, Urophagia, Deterioration, Nippercreep, Fecal Bacteria & Mixomatosis. Released on the now defunct Valley Of Death Records (which was run by myself, of all people). 250 were pressed on black, 250 on blue/green splatter. This particular record is number 111 out of 500.

I learned all about the ups and downs of running an indy label whilst working on this 7" record. It's a lot harder than you would think, and a lot more expensive. The original goal was to create a 12" compilation with a whole range of bands. That eventually ended up as a 7" because I got sick of trying to keep track of everyone. In the end I think that the diversity here led more to the record's failure, rather than help it sell. It opens with a techno beat, blasts through some gore grind and then shreds through death metal, before side B introduces us to thrash influenced hardcore punk, more gore grind and then finishing with a bad live recording of Mixomatosis. The Urophagia track is hands down my favourite. The artwork is by the hugely talented horror / comic book artist Lou Rusconi.

I am proud to say, however, that this is still for sale on Rotten Roll.

Oh, and the extra photos above are of the test pressings.
