S.M.E.S. - Gory Gory Halleluja!

Whoever thought that goregrind that sounds like it has been composed entirely on an early 90s game console chipset would be a good idea? I mean, I'm not even sure if it is actually a good idea, but fuck it, I think it is pretty awesome, so who cares, eh? S.M.E.S., if you don't know, is the baby of once Last Days Of Humanity vocalist Erwin De Groot (who is also doing vocals more recently with the amazing Butcher MD), playing goregrind / tupa tupa style stuff in an entirely synthetic way.

The sound combines gurgled pitchshifter noises with 'scapes of MIDI-grade instrumentation, resulting in an ultra lo-fi experience, like Libido Airbag meets Mario Kart. Yeah. Embrace that shit.

Pigsty - Planet Of The Pigs

Planet Of The Pigs is the final (?) album from long-running Czech grindcore band, Pigsty. I think to still call Pigsty a grindcore band by this point is pushing it a bit; Planet Of The Pigs has a whole world of other influences building on the grinding template, from thrash to death metal, to the kooky ongoing concept ("Inspection Report" kicks this thing off with GWAR-grade sci-fi storytelling) and even the insane djent moments that randomly crop up through the chaos. 

The band have had an almost exclusive relationship with Bizarre Leprous productions, and I sincerely hope that one day they shall return from the Planet Of The Pigs to blast us with more perplexing space grind.

7 Minutes Of Nausea / PTAO - Split CD

Pár Teček A Otazník, almost always abbreviated to PTAO, were a noisecore band that were initially active through the nineties up to the early 2000s (although there has been a full length released last year, and a series of CDrs a few years back). On this release they mix bizarre classical background music with very high studio-quality noisecore blur attacks, topped with goregrind style pitched vocals, which is a nice change for this type of thing.

7 Minutes Of Nausea seem to sometimes just transcend noisecore into all out...... I'm not even sure. All constructs and designs of music are completely absent, resulting in complete and utter nonsense. I guess that is the point though and this is the next step forward. Nothing matches, not even in the style of noisecore, just pure non-music dissonance and chaos.

Butcher M.D. - Traces Of Blood

Considering how much I listen to goregrind I always seem to let to the big 'uns slide right on by....*sigh*. Anyway, this fucking amazing goregrind record was released last year by Bizarre Leprous and is a new project of Ex-LODH/SMES vokill puke bucket Erwin De Groot and one Kirill Maestro, who - according to Discogs - played guitars and programming in a band called Jaga-Jaga Massacre (who I'll definitely be keeping an eye open for after hearing Traces Of Blood). With song titles such as "Fake Tits Replaced With Two Severed Human Head" and "Devoured By Oozing Stomach Acids" you know we are back in business.

I guess I can liken the drum machine goregrind style to Torsofuck-meets-Regurgitate (minus three hundred truck loads of muddy production), even something a bit more early-days Splattered Entrails, and the vocals are sweet, sweet music to the ears of any fan of Last Days Of Humanity, SMES etc. etc. I wasn't too fussed on the vocal contributions to the Urine Cop project (just couldn't hear them, more than anything) but this shit is pure fucking filth; it's so goddamn amazing.

Rompeprop - Gargle Cummics

Ah, Rompeprop! Surely, listening to this band is one of the finer things in life. I don't think there's a song in the entire universe that can put me as quickly into party mode as "Quackquack" can (except maybe "Int(I)Ro(L)" from the previous record). Boasting one of the sickest and most amazing pitchshifted vocal styles in the history of life, Dutch goregrind groove masters return for their 3rd long player. A slight line up shift aside, Rompeprop just carry on what they did with Menstraul Stomphulk and Hellcock's Pornflakes...reducing you to a twist-dancing, comically-dressed spacktard who wants to fly to the Czech Republic every July and dance in a field with other comically-dressed spackers. 

The second track "Foreskin Fart" is a touch on the slow side, but the puzzlingly-titled "Pikzwarteflikkerkak" is a lot faster and upbeat, with an insane groove. "Gr(e)Indhoven" is another stone cold Rompeprop classic with epic amounts of chuggy goodness. "Horrible Hangover" tells the tale of the price one pays for too much dancing in fields in the old Eastern Block. The icing on this 16 track cake of gory goodness is the inclusion of a cover-version of the song "Born to be Wild", with the name (and lyrics) changed to "Porn to be Wild" in true Rompeprop fashion. You simply haven't lived if you haven't heard this rock'n'roll classic sang through a fucking pitchshifter.

Gargle Cummics is a well-rounded, super-fun take on the punishing goregrind sound. If there is ever an instant "in-road" to this kinda shit without trudging through a maze of metal sub-genres first, then I think Rompeprop could be the link. I've yet to see Rompeprop live; something which I need to sort out sooner rather than later. Out on Fat Ass Records and Bizarre Leprous Productions, and limited to only 500 pieces. Blergh!

Lycanthrophy / Nesoucast Stroje - Split 7"

NxSx play sprightly, punky grindcore with a crazed vocal attack. The songs are short blasts that resemble something between the lines of the fastest garage grindcore and the heaviest powerviolence. A recurring theme is that between songs, the humming of bees, or swarms of insects, fades in and out. This ties in with the cover art, which has a whole bunch of wasps and bees and shit swarming all over the place. If you're wondering about the band's funky name (which I believe is Czech language?), it is explained inside the cover that "the name means that we don't feel to stay and rotate in the only one and right circle". So there you have it.

 

 

This Lycanthrophy stuff here is interesting for me, as it doesn't possess the hellish female vocal barrage that the group is known so well for. I have learned from this 7" that Lycanthrophy once had a dual vocalist set up of two guys, one with a shouty, punky approach and the other with a lower US-style powerviolence roar. There may be different vocalists to what I was expecting when I bought this, but it doesn't really matter; the grind is fast, heavy and fucking bonkers. Just what the doctor ordered!

 

This 7" was brought into existence by a crazy collaboration of 15 record labels (a fair amount of which are from the Czech Republic), I will list them all below for you. All of them are well worth a look in for underground grindcore type stuff. All in all, this is a well rounded 7" split that would go well in any grinder's collection.

Blood Duster - Menstrual Soup 7"

Your looking at the post for Blood Duster's 2004 re-release of their 1992 demo tape, on a super cool picture disc. It was remastered from the original tape and released by Bizarre Leprous Productions.

Musically, it's a whole world away from Blood Duster's bizarre mix of blasting grindcore and swanky rock'n'roll; a dirgy, muddy six tracks of horrible noisy goregrind. Where pitch-shifted vocals sneak into later Blood Duster every now and then, here they are the norm, bolstered by a bass heavy, thick and pounding production and plodding, thumping drums.

I would say that this would be a collector's item for Blood Duster fans, but that's not true in the respect that this is purely goregrind, and that a lot of fans of that genre could like this release too. You can still get this for about £5, and it's also out on shaped CD (on the same label) and the original self released tape from 1992 (good luck finding that!).
