Entrails Massacre / Mesrine - Split 7"

This is my first experience with Mesrine, although it's been a long-time coming; another one of those bands that always escapes checking out! After seeing Entrails Massacre in OEF I decided to buy some of their shit and I got this split, which introduced me (finally) to the wonders of Mesrine. Boasting a no-nonsense approach to the world of grind, Mesrine seem to form some sort of heavy hitting bastard child of traditional grindcore and hardcore riffs, not dissimilar to a mix between Napalm Death and later Phobia stuff.

Entrails Massacre don't have an 'as-condensed' sound as Mesrine and their hard-hitting yet heavily-compressed studio work. Entrails Massacre's tunes are a bit more rough around the edges, but what they lose in studio slickery they make up for in sheer grinding performance.

This awesome 7" is limited to 525 copies on the Uranium Overdose label.

Black Sun / They Are Cowards - Split 7"

This is the Black Sun split 7" with They Are Cowards that was put out by At War With False Noise in 2009 on a super limited run of 300 black copies. Not much to say here, as this is really a collectors item. Black Sun's input is an earlier version of "Code Black" which was to later to go on to appear as the opener to their album "Twilight of the Gods". It's a brilliant tune.

They are Cowards appear to have that hardcore band look about their artwork but they are actually very doomy, and their single track "First and Only" is pretty good. However, this is yet another one of those splits where one band totally out-does the other, and the winner this time just has to be Black Sun.

As far as I'm aware, this release is out of print, but you can get it dirt cheap on Discogs.

Bowel Stew / Tu Carne - Split 7"

Another one of my first ever 7" purchases. This time, horrible, disgusting goregrind, of course! This is the Bowel Stew split 7" with Tu Carne, released in 2004 on the no longer active American label Murder The World. The cover is a bit fucked up, if your not a gore-hound be prepared to be a bit shocked.

Both bands offer up noisy passages of goregrind, Tu Carne are probably a bit more organised than the sludgy, liquid putridity of Bowel Stew. There is something about Bowel Stew's material that is somewhat inconsistent. Perhaps there has been lots of line up changes? I don't know, I'm not that well educated about their existence. This is definitly for fans of this niche genre only, I can't see it appealing to many others. Still, great horrible music!
